life update: october 2021

How the hell are ya?!

I haven’t talked to you since late summer when I shared my recent reads

As for updating you up on what’s been going on in life… it’s been over a year since I’ve written.

Many events took place between now and then, but I am looking to share what I have learned interim.

Let’s cover the key updates:
1) I moved; 2) I fell in love; and 3) I earned my bachelor’s degree.

My lovely godmother and her husband are amazing people. They allowed me to move in with them while I gathered my life following my breakup with my live-in boyfriend early winter 2019.

For about a year and a half, I lived with them before finding a room in Queen Village (such a lovely area of Philly) for an excellent price.

August 2020, I moved into my first housing situation since college housing in 2017.

The headaches were plentiful, but the lessons learned are priceless.

However, as of September 2021, I am a solo gal taking on the big city (of Philadelphia) with her baby cat, Penelope, and I could not be happier.

You must be asking, “Who is the love interest, Alex???”

On February 13, 2021, my heart was stolen by a North Philly alleycat at Le Cat Cafe

Life Update || Penelope

We connected immediately and moved fast — she was sleeping in my bed that evening!
Anyone who may be judging has never experienced love at first sight.

In all seriousness, P has been such a blessing to my life. Despite her sass, I love her with my whole being, but I can’t blame her for it since she learned it from her mama. 😛

Following my long-overdue graduation in May, I officially launched myself as a freelance writer and content creator.

I worked on a few projects throughout the summer and continued to browse more “permanent” roles.

A position intrigued me. I applied,  interviewed, asked all the right questions, then received an offer shortly after.

OMG yay — my ideal post grad job!!

Hahaha, yeah. That lasted three-ish days.

Once the contract was signed, the details of the role began to change from flexible hours and multi-day research projects to 9 am to 5 pm screen time and day-of deadlines. Miscommunications quickly brought a lack of organization to light.

Red flag, after red flag, after red flag.

I am in a good mental space and do not wish to spiral.

I am so grateful for the self-confidence I have built over the past few years because otherwise, I’d still be miserable, overworked, and underappreciated.

Presently I am focusing my energy on caring for my mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

Lucky for you guys, part of that health regime is writing more often. 🙂

Talk soon,
Alex xoxo
